The last time I’ve been hit with an irrepressible urge to do anything at 6:44 a.m. was…. the morning I discovered I had no coffee and I had to make a down the street to Starbucks.
I think I’ve got a clove of garlic. If I do, look for a report once I’ve had some coffee. Otherwise, look for a report after I’ve been to the store.
It worked – sort of. I couldn’t break the clove with my hand, so I used the butternut squash that was lying on the counter. Perfect!
Then, I didn’t have two neat stainless bowls like that, so I put the whole mess in an empty Talenti gelato container (pint sized, with a screw-on lid). I shook the dickens out of it. Three-quarters of the cloves emerged fully peeled, and the rest were easy enough to do.
Now. Any suggetions on what to do with all those peeled garlic cloves?
Ah ha! Look at you. You have an official test kitchen. We could make a dynamic team. I will rove the internet looking for nifty culinary tricks and you can execute them. Maybe you should invest in some rubber gloves and goggles.
You could put your cloves in some olive oil and use the oil for recipes.
Cool. I couldn’t shake the dang bowl that hard or that fast, so…….I buy mine all chopped up in a jar

Linda should make 40 clove of garlic chicken — it’s either a Julia or Ina Garten French recipe and not really hard. (Probably on foodnetwork.com!)
I’ve done the smashing for a long time to break apart the cloves. The bowls or container is new… I see an experiment coming on!
I think Ina does the 40 cloves of garlic chicken. I like a lot of her recipes. Let me know if you try this method of garlic peeling.

That is absolutely amazing. Peeling garlic IS a pain in the ass. I can’t wait to smash the head and try it at home. Wondering if I have two bowls that are the same size though.
I think a jar will work or a Tupperware-type storage container.
I tried it the other day! I didn’t quite nail it but I’m close!
